The European Council for Young Farmers (Europe Region)

Nature Policy by Umair Zia

CEJA acts as a forum for communication between young farmers and European decision-makers. Its main objective is to promote a younger and more innovative agricultural sector across the EU-27 and to create good working and living conditions for young people setting up in farming and those who are already “young farmers”.

The main concerns of young farmers are issues related to access to land, credit and production rights, and strengthening education and training facilities for young people in rural areas. CEJA represents around 2 million young farmers in Europe. Their membership spans across 23 EU Member States and 33 national member organizations, including an observer member from the UK and an associate member from Serbia. We remain in regular contact with young farmers’ organizations, agricultural institutions and associations throughout Europe and worldwide. CEJA has built strong links with various international youth organizations over the years in its advocacy work for young farmers, while always maintaining independence from any political ideology. The Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition Foundation (BCFN) analyzes the complexity of current agri-food systems and, through a variety of initiatives, fosters change towards healthier and more sustainable lifestyles in order to achieve the Goals set by the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs).
With its public initiatives and scientific research, BCFN provides recommendations to public decision makers and maintains an ongoing dialogue with its stakeholders by providing food related multidisciplinary studies and highlighting best practices; it engages the new generations by developing educational tools and awarding projects by young researchers from around the world; it speaks to people to raise awareness and inspire informed daily food choices; and it awards journalistic excellence in reporting the paradoxes of the current food system. Developing Innovations in School and Community Cultivation (Uganda)

Developing Innovations in School and Community Cultivation (DISCC) Project started in 2006 with 4 volunteers with an aim of promoting economically viable sustainable agriculture among the youth and since then the number has grown to a total of 15 Volunteers who have undergone both local and international training in the establishment, management and sustaining school, community and home gardens using different farming techniques and models like the Permaculture principles, farmer ownership Model (FOM), Child to Parent Model (C2P), Farmer to Market (F2M) among others and have been implementing similar models and offering training and advisory services in similar projects in Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania. Global Fund International (China)

Since their beginnings in 1938, first as China’s Children Fund and later as Christian Children’s Fund, their approach has evolved into one of community development, focused on strengthening families and community structures that make up a child’s environment. The individual sponsor-to-child relationship supports this work, with sponsor funds pooled to improve life in the communities where sponsored children live. Please click here for more details.
